If the Sierra de Guara is considered a world canyoning spot, it owes it, among other renowned routes, to the incredible canyon of GORGAS NEGRAS. Located in the upper part of the Alcanadre river, it is accessible on foot from the village of Rodellar or from that of Bara on the north face of the Sierra de Guara.
Composed of limestone rocks, its descent involves abseils, long swimming jumps in translucent pools, long reaches and the canyon is famous for its cold waters. Its main commitment, in addition to a first part more technical than the second (with abseils and / or technical jumps) is its great length of about 5 km of active water (without escape), to which must be added 2 km additional if it is linked with the canyon del barrasil, in addition to its 3 hours of access walk and 1 to 2 hours of return.
The descent of the Gorgas Negras therefore requires excellent physical condition in addition to a certain technical mastery to accelerate / smooth its descent. Without these qualities, it becomes an “endless of fatigue and cold” which surprised more than one group. Most spend between 9h to 13h to take it down, but others, not sufficiently prepared or overestimating their skills, exceed these times or some have even had to spend the night inside.
We must therefore not take the descent of Gorgas Negras lightly, but carried out in good conditions, it will offer the visitor an unparalleled visual spectacle, possibilities of big jumps, cascade abseils, beautiful oppositions, impressive siphons. , and superb transparent pools.
